A first debt sale at fair market price for Liberis Group

A back book that was no longer being worked, and three questions about whether selling it could become a permanent strategy.

Liberis Group

The challenge

What Liberis faced.

Liberis had built up a back book it was no longer working, and wanted to know whether debt sale could become a permanent part of its collections strategy.

Three questions: sell the aged book, establish whether sale was economically viable going forward, and find the right point in the cycle to introduce a forward flow.

The solution

What we did.

We segmented and analysed the portfolio to find the optimum point to sell, built the business case framework to evaluate the prices offered, produced the memorandum for sale, identified and engaged the right purchasers, and managed due diligence through to contract.

We advised on the operational terms too, so post-sale put-backs and risk were settled before they became issues.

The results

What changed.

MinimalOperational fallout
  • The first stock sale achieved a fair market price with minimal operational fallout.
  • The point for future flow sales was identified.
  • A forward flow sale followed shortly after, setting up a longer term partnership with a purchaser.
